Collegium Marianum concert cycle BAROQUE SOIRÉES
 
An important source of inspiration for Baroque masters was the non-musical context – we often encounter, for example, imitations of natural sounds or elements, or attempts to evoke the atmosphere of a particular venue or space. These imitative efforts are particularly characteristic of music composed for opera and theater. The opening concert of the autumn series of Baroque Evenings will present such “programmatic” works associated with mysterious nature or court festivities. The first part of the concert will feature suites from operas by Henry Purcell and George Frideric Händel, complemented by compositions by Jean-Baptiste Lully. The second part will feature Francesco Geminiani’s concerto grosso La foresta incantata, originally composed as an accompaniment to a pantomime play.
